Kahil Gibran Broken Wings

That year is like a mountain peak in my life, for it awakened knowledge in me and made me understand the vicissitudes of mankind. In that year I was reborn and unless a person is born again his life will remain like a blank sheet in the book of existence. In that year, I saw the angels looking at me through the eyes of a beautiful woman. I also saw the devils of hell raging in the heart of an evil man. He who does not see the angels and devils in the beauty and malice of life will be far removed from knowledge, and his spirit will be empty of affection.....Love is the only freedom in the world because it so elevates the spirit that laws of humanity do not alter its course.
— Kahil Gibran, Broken Wings

I was browsing half price books when I stumbled upon Broken Wings by Kahil Gibran.  I read it in a night, and it left me in tears.  Though it is a tragic love story, it makes you really appreciate love.   It's the one feeling that inspite of the pain we know it can ensue, we still long for it, live for it, and give it freely with no regards because the pleasure it fills our lives within so much greater.  In the book he tells the story of  meeting his one true love, how it opened his eyes to a new world, and how it tears him apart not being able to be with her.  His eloquent way of writing puts you right there with him, feeling his pleasures and pain.  In my life I have known deep love and lost deep love.  Both impacted me in a way I will never regret.  This book is a beautiful read.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
