Jessica and Michael Cincinnati Wedding Photographer

For Michael and Jessica's engagement session we used their church as a backdrop for some of the images.  I was beyond happy when I walked in and saw how cool it is.  This is not like any church I have ever seen. It has this hip, modern, industrial feel and tons of natural light via skylights and huge windows.

Jessica and Michael are a gorgeous couple.   I am gonna go ahead post my favorite right away, what's the use in waiting?

This is just perfect. The inside of this church is a photographers dream. :) There is color and texture everywhere.

I love this. After we finished at the church we headed to downtown Cincinnati.   I know Michael and Jessica are huge Reds fans so I suggested we head across the river for a few night shots in front of the stadium.

Silhouettes are my new obsession.

Jessica and Michael you guys are just cool.

Thanks for the fun and thanks for the awesome pictures. ;) I cant wait until the wedding.

Rock and Roll

Inspired by a desire to push myself creatively, many nights admiring the rocknroll bride.com, and the photography in FOAM magazine I set up this rock and roll themed photo session with Jeremy and Ashley.  I wanted to create something edgy and fun.  I needed to create  something that I feel would really represent my personality and the type of photography I love, which is still hard for me to define through words. :)

Jeremy is a good friend of mine, he has a great sense of style.  I knew he would be perfect for the shoot.  I asked to see if his friend Ashley, who is a hair stylist at Pinnokios Salon in Northside, would be willing to be my "bride".  She is gorgeous, and has the tattooed look I was going for.  We planned the session so that we would be out during that magic hour before the sun sets.  Beautiful.  I am so happy with the way these turned out!

Happy Fathers Day to my Dad

Today is the day to celebrate Dads.

This is my Papa in pictures! :)

He lived in Germany when he was little, my grandfather was stationed there in the Army.

Here he is around 17.  Mom was pregnant with me and he wanted to be able to take care of us, so he did what a lot of young father's did, he joined the army.  I love the Polaroids on his closet door. This is from Christmas last year.  My dad adores being a papaw to my sister's 4 boys.  I love how happy they make him! :)This was at one of my nephew's birthday party.  The whole family was cracking up when Dad walked in with his flannel shirt on.  We are so close we even dress the same.  I remember in high school I used to sneak his flannels and band tshirts.  He gave me his jean jacket from the 70's back then and it is still one of my favorite treasures.

I love you Dad!

Gina and Mike Part 2

A few weekends ago I had the pleasure of joining Gina and Mike at Mike's family's house, along the river in Kentucky,  for an amazing reception.  If you follow my blog you remember  how laid back and intimate their wedding was.  The reception was just as intimate except this time they added a few more people and a boat to the party. :)

This is our view from the house.     This is Mike's grandmother.  Her husband bought the property for his family to have a gathering place for parties and summer fun.I loooove old barns!!!!

Mike's family is HUGE!  I got to hear stories from three generations about the memories they had of the house growing up.  This is a hole from a bb gun.  One of the little girls at the party told me that her dad put it there when he was younger.

There were amazing little treasures all over the house.

Coming up from the river.

Gina and her dad.

Gina's nephew taking a little break. Party time!! :) So I am really embarrassed to admit that as much as I love the river, this is my first time out in a boat. (unless you count the BB River boats) I had a blast!  I was hooting and hollering the entire time!    I love this!!! When Mike's grandfather bought the property for their summer house he also bought up all of the property next to it.  It is now occupied by his family.  They have their own little town. :) Captain Mike Beautiful Gina

Bubble time with Ethan. Gina's niece enjoying one of the cupcakes her mother made.

I bribed Gina's son with my camera at the wedding.  If he would do what I asked I would let him take a picture.  He loved it.  He would keep asking me all day to take a picture and when I let him he would just keep shooting and shooting.  Looks like he got a hold of his aunt's camera this time! :) I love these girls! Mike's mom did an amazing job organizing the party.  Thanks for such a great time! :)

Once it got dark we headed down to the river for the biggest bonfire I have ever seen.  The amount of stars we were able to see was breathtaking.  I need to get out of the city more. :) Mike and Gina, thanks again for allowing me to be part of so much fun! :)

A little bit of this, a little bit of that...

My world in pictures.  I promise to have a full blog post by Friday. I have been out photographing so much that I have barely had time to process, but the next two days are dedicated to my desk so that I am caught up before the weddings I have coming up. :)  Here is a little bit of everything I have been working on lately...

I love this woman.  Remember Gina from a wedding I photographed in April, well this is Part 2, The Party.  It was an awesome time.  By the end of the night we had the largest bonfire I have ever seen. :)

This is from a photo session I set up for fun.  It turned out so cool.  As soon as I can narrow down from my 250 favorites I will be sharing this one.  Be prepared, it's another smokin' hot redhead! ;)  This is Jessica and Michael from an engagement session I photographed last night.  I was so glad I got to do some experimenting with night shots.  Wait until you see how gorgeous Jessica is. :)

There was that massive storm that rumbled through the Tri-state.  I was lucky to be out with my camera.  Those clouds were spectacular. Lately I have been drawn to blur, grain, and abstract compositions.  I think Dave's style of shooting is seeping into my subconscious.

My nephew Austin at the skate park. Quick question... I go back and forth with myself about the size of the pictures on my blog.  I would love your opinion if you don't mind.  What do you think about the size?  Are they too big? too small? just right? I like the way they look on my computer, but we all have different screens so let me know what you think.

Cincinnati Boudoir Photography

Whenever I mention one of my boudoir sessions I always get a few people who tell me how much they would love to do it, but they don't have the nerve.   I want to share a little of what my experience shooting boudoir has showed me and prove to you that boudoir is for everyone.  I can promise that you will not only love your pictures, but you will also feel pretty awesome afterward.

When a client first walks in they are almost always  nervous, heck I would be too.  You don't really know what to expect, and even if you did, it is still a little scary taking off your clothes in front of someone you barely know.  Something I feel really helps build up those nerves is feel getting your hair and makeup done professionally.  It will make you feel hot and confident.  Brittany from Cloud 9 salon does a wonderful job.

Every girl has her own special curves so make sure to choose outfits that make you feel beautiful.  Don't worry about those 10 pounds you have been trying to loose.  It is amazing how the right light and pose can instantly take off those pounds.  We all have something about our bodies that we don't like.  The idea is to enhance the features we love and to mask those we don't.  That can be as simple as a turn of the hips.  Don't focus on what you consider to be your flaws.  Instead trust that your photographer has your best looks in mind and let me do my magic.

It usually takes about 15 minutes to get past the butterflies and start rocking your session.  The following images are from a client a photographed a couple of weeks ago.  She was a little nervous at first, but she trusted that I would make her look beautiful and together we made some gorgeous images.  She did the session as a birthday gift to her man.  This was a little note I got from her afterward...

"Nikita!!! Nikita!! D loved his gift (the photos). Thanks so much for making me look as beautiful as ever. I felt so sexy and that is saying a lot because I never feel that way! You are the best. thanks so much!"

That makes my day!  I love that I have a job that has the power to make people feel so good about themselves. :)

E thank you so much for allowing me to share your beautiful images! :)

Shanean and Ryan are getting married!

Their journey began while Shanean was working as the promotions manager at a local club. Stuff magazine was putting on an event and she picked Ryan to be one of the models, little did she know then that she was picking her future husband. After many years of crossing paths from Arizona to Cincinnati they finally went on a date and have been together ever since.

Shanean and I have been friends for years, when she called me about setting up an engagement session I was thrilled.  They are a gorgeous couple and so much fun to hang out with.  I am honored to not only take these special photos for them, but to also be joining them in Mexico next year to photograph their wedding!  Yes! My first destination wedding!

For their session we walked around downtown Cincinnati for the more formal shots, then went to one of my special spots for the fun stuff!

Since Ryan works for Harley Davidson we had to include his bike in a few photos. I will be the first to admit that  I am kinda a snob when it comes to custom bikes, my stepdad  was a hardcore biker who built his own Harleys. I was blown away when Ryan pulled up on this bike.  He did a such a great job, this bike is just hot!!!

My favorite!

Shanean and Ryan, I cant thank you enough for giving me the opportunity to document your love in Mexico! :)

iPhone art

I don't really enjoy talking on my phone as much as I love to take pictures with it.    I am addicted to it, seriously addicted.  I have had it for about 9 months and I have managed to save over 400o pictures that I refuse to erase.  I am sure I have probably taken double that,  if not more.  I have about 25 photo apps, and about 10 I really want to get.  It's kinda crazy.  But it is also nice to always have a camera with me, because I see something I want to take a picture of everywhere I go.

I snapped a picture of these statues with my Nikon and my iPhone.  I like my phone pictures best.  I have always been drawn to grain and contrast.  This phone and it's apps are great for creating images that are grainy or noisy.   I don't mind if things aren't perfectly in focus.  It reminds me of using my Holga, but I get the instant gratification of digital.

These are all captured and processed with my iPhone.  I get lots of emails about what apps I use, I will try to start including them in my posts when I can remember.  Sometimes I just go crazy with a ton of apps on top of each other until I get something I like.   I used the Mill Color App on the color photos and PS Mobile on the black and white.

The first two were taken at Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati.

This was taken at the entrance of a horse farm in Kentucky .

This is one of my favorite iPhone photos I have captured.  I stumbled upon this beauty after I intentionally got myself lost in Boone County.  This one was magic.
